Update process

The Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors approved a general process and timeline for the 2009 Comprehensive Plan Update in April 2007. This 22-month process can be broken down into the following basic components:

 

Community participation

This plan is for the community as a whole and because of that, it is important to have the input and support of the citizens. Some features to garner this support include options to contribute to the plan via the internet, mail, or phone and several public meetings, known as Community Conversations, throughout the process.

 

Policy and plan development

This works hand-in-hand with the community participation component of the process. Each section of the Comprehensive Plan will go through a similar review process which involves the gathering of statistics, preparation of a background report which assesses current conditions and citizen comments, research of policy initiatives, recommendation of goals, strategies, and actions, and processing of land use changes. The information is presented first to the Steering Committee, then to the Planning Commission, and finally to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
