The Ordinance Update
The Process
The Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors approved a methodology, including a general process and and timeline, for the Ordinance Update in May 2010. The methodology also included an explanation of research items and a scope of work. This 20-month process can be broken down into the following stages:
- Stage 1 - Identifying issues with the current Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and assessing options for potential solutions. Stage 1 also offers significant opportunities for early community input, including two Planning Commission Forums scheduled in August 2010.
- Stage 2 - Preparation and revision of existing Ordinances based on options in Stage 1 that are in the best interest of the County. The draft ordinances will be reviewed by the Policy Committee of the Planning Commission and will be available for review and comment by the community during public comment periods.
- Stage 3 - Involves adoption of final ordinances through public hearings by the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. The Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors have also identified five priority items/groups of ordinances in the methodology with the goal of completing these items by the end of 2011.
